The story of Visscher

1913

1913

Albert Brouwer registered his fishing vessel, the UK 75 ‘Ora et Labora’, in the Fisheries Register. Little did he know that this would establish the groundwork for a generations-long entrepreneurial tradition within the Brouwer family. From this enterprise, the Brouwer Food Group emerged. Currently, the Group holds 5 subsidiaries, one of which is the Visscher Seafood Group.

1986

In collaboration with Frank Visscher, the seafood export company Visscher Seafood was established. The company specialized in exporting North Sea fish products such as dover sole, plaice, and turbot, outstanding products that remain in our assortment to this day.

1995

1995

A new facility was constructed, expanding the capacity to process various other seafood species.

2005

2005

The initial salmon processing commenced by manual means, followed by the procurement of a salmon processing production line later that year.

2015

2015

A state-of-the-art processing facility, furnished with the latest salmon processing machinery, was inaugurated in Urk, the Netherlands.

2019

2019

The launch of the all-natural salmon aquaculture concept VÅRLAKS occurred in partnership with five independent family-owned Norwegian farmers from above the Arctic Circle.

2020

Visscher Seafood acquired a controlling interest in the Scottish salmon farming company Organic Sea Harvest, which holds several licenses allowing a maximum allowed biomass of 5,000 metric tonnes around the iconic Isle of Skye. Additionally, a one-third stake was acquired in Uvec Production, a salmon processing plant.

In response to the growing demand in the US market, Visscher Seafood North America established an office in New Jersey.

A one-third stake was acquired in Korf Salmon, our third salmon processing facility.

2023

2023

Visscher Seafood acquired the export activities from Norway Royal Salmon following its merger with SalMar. Furthermore, the second phase of our flagship processing facility and headquarters in the Netherlands was completed.

The companies within the Visscher Seafood Group farm, process, and distribute over 50,000 metric tonnes of salmon to countries worldwide.

Visscher Seafood is part of the Brouwer Food Group, a family-owned company with 100 years of food experience. Since its founding in 1923 as a catering supplier, the company has grown into a wholesale group with a passion for food, in the broadest sense.
