Scottish Label Rouge Salmon

Visscher Seafood is owner of Organic Sea Harvest, a Label Rouge-certified salmon farm in Scotland. This gives Visscher Seafood a steady supply of Label Rouge salmon from Scotland year-round. We are a proud processor and distributor of this pristine salmon product; the first fish and non-French product to be awarded the Label Rouge quality mark.

Label Rouge Certification

Label Rouge products are food and non-food items that, according tot the French Ministry of Agriculture, have a specific set of characteristics establishing a superior level to that of a similar product. In 1992, Scottish salmon was awarded the Label Rouge quality mark, particularly with regards to taste. Fun fact: Scottish organic salmon was the first non-French product to ever receive this certification.

To obtain this recognition, the salmon is held to a very stringent set of standards throughout the entire production chain. This included farming, feed, processing and distribution. Our Scottish Label Rouge salmon is farmed in the pristine Loch Duart fjord. The maximum stocking density in these seawater pens is 1,5% salmon, which means the salmon has an abundance of space to grow. Due to this freedom of movement, the flesh contains a maximum of 16% lipid.

From niche product to worldwide fame

Originally produced as a niche product for the premium French market and its top restaurants, Label Rouge salmon is gaining popularity in other countries as well. The pristine quality of Label Rouge Scottish salmon is much sought after in countries like Germany and Switzerland, but also further afield in the Middle East and Japan. Visscher Seafood is a proud processor and distributor of Label Rouge salmon. We supply Label Rouge salmon both as whole salmon or custom cut fillets.
