Visscher Seafood acquires salmon exporter Norwegian Seafood

The main office of Norwegian Seafood (formerly NRS) is in Kristiansand Norway.

Visscher Seafood has acquired the trading activities of Norway Royal Salmon (NRS) from SalMar. The assets will be transferred into a Norwegian subsidiary of Visscher through an asset purchase agreement. The export company will be rebranded to Norwegian Seafood AS.

For Visscher Seafood, the acquisition is its third foreign investment. In 2020 an interest was taken in Scottish salmon farmer Organic Sea Harvest and in 2021 a branch was opened in the United States. According to CEO Tim Brouwer, the takeover fits perfectly into the company’s strategy; ‘’our strategy is to invest in the 3 key elements of the salmon value chain: aquaculture, processing and international trade. With this investment we secure raw material. The company has a very strong supplier base with small and medium-sized farmers that were otherwise inaccessible to us. Furthermore, NRS is big in markets where we are still relatively small, such as China, Japan and South Korea.”

Visscher Seafood expects to double down on its total annual salmon volume to approximately 50,000 tonnes with the acquisition. Contact us for more information.
